Workshop Descriptions:

Opening Session
The Cave: Inner Work
The Stars: Astrology
The Dance: Ritual Arts
Closing Sessions

Opening Session
St. Louis Mysteries & Cynthia Jones
9:30 am
We will introduce each other and the theme of the day to begin our work. How do you look into the dark mirror of your own soul? As the air grows cold and sap returns to the root, we begin to look within ourselves. How do you face your shadows, fears, and wounds? What holds you back? Together, we will work with the concept of making an old wound sacred, laying down the story instead of reliving it, so that we may claim a gift from that wound and step into who we are becoming. We will learn how to open to our hearts and to love as the deepest source of healing we can invoke.

Cynthia will tell the story of Chiron, the wounded healer in Greek Mythology, and explore how some of our wounds show up in our astrological chart as the place where, because of our old wound, we can heal those around us. The language of myth and astrology speaks to our subconscious and helps us transform in a deeper way than just discussion.

Will you dance with transformation and step into wholeness, into your larger story, into your destiny?

The Cave: Inner Work
Travel deep into the cave of your Self to explore obstacles that may be keeping you from your destiny. What gifts hide within the wounds of your past?

Encountering Sacred Wound Through the Labyrinth
Michelle Solvej
10:45
Pain inflicted by others did not enable my growth; it inhibited growth and distorted my natural patterns of growth. As a result of those old wounds, I developed in ways that are no longer functional for me, that do not allow me to actualize my full potential as a human being.

This workshop will use the labyrinth as an experiential meditative tool to explore old wounds that you may be ready to release and make sacred. Release your old wounds and learn which stories you no longer want to repeat as you open to the possibility of growth and change.

Lunch Discussion: Celtic Mythology, Out of the Dark, Into a New Day
Charlie Bettis
12:00

Sacred Wound and the archetype of the Cave have parallels in Celtic Mythology. This lunch discussion will cover themes of Celtic mythology including the Fisher King with the wounded thigh that could not be healed, Brugh Na Boand (Newgrange) as a ritual initiation chamber, and the Celtic hero’s journey from darkness to light in the Grail Quest of Perceval. Enjoy a little storytelling and discussion with someone passionate about these myths.

Drumming Your Shadows to Healing
Selene
1:00

Rhythm of the earth, rhythm of the drum, rhythm deep inside our own body. The pulse takes us deeper into ourselves, into the pulse that connects us to the earth. Slowing down, we journey within ourselves to the ancient rhythm of the drums.

Deep within that rhythm, when we’ve slowed our minds down, we come to something inside, something that may need healing. In this highly experiential workshop, we will drum into a place of deep emotion and empower ourselves to heal our own pain with rhythm and intention. Let the deep wisdom of the drumbeat take you through a journey of healing and enact positive change in your life.

No experience with drumming is needed, though it is helpful to bring a drum if you plan to attend this workshops. Extra drums will be available.

Become the Hero of Your Own Journey
Shauna Aura
2:30
Myths and fairytales are the stories of heroes on a quest that leads them to transformation. You, too, are a hero on a journey. Together, we will learn about the archetypal pattern of myth and how it applies to your process of personal growth.

Participants will have an opportunity to explore the wounds, shadows, and fears from their past in context of the challenges a hero faces on his or her journey. Tell or craft the story of your own myth, your own hero’s journey. What are the challenges you’ve faced on your quest? What gifts hide within the wounds of your past? Step into the quest and claim your larger story as a hero.

Lunch Discussion: Christo-Paganism
Joyce Higginbotham, River Higginbotham

If you are a ChristoPagan, we encourage you to come share your journey with others who may be curious about it. You do not have to be a ChristoPagan to attend this casual lunch discussion, only interested in the topic.

The Astrological Moon and the Power of Reflection
Ellen Bartin
1:00

Most of us know our Sun sign – how it colors the expression of our "solar power" in the world, in other words: our sense of purpose, our struggle toward individuation, and the contours of our unique destiny in this life. But what about the Sun’s complement – the Moon? The astrological Moon is the yin to the Sun’s yang. The Sun represents the "hero" archetype within and how we go about conquering the world. But what of our inner journey? That is Moon territory.

The Moon digests our experiences and helps us to find the meaning and satisfaction we derive from the events in our life. It is this inner reflection that keeps us connected to our bodies, feelings, needs and emotions. Let’s explore the other half of astrology’s two prime symbols--the astrological Moon.

Eclipses: Gateways to the Shadow Self
Bill Duvendack
2:30

Every calendar year there are four eclipses that happen. There are two Lunar, and two Solar. These are particularly powerful times of the year, and usually coincide with the changing seasons of spring and autumn, and most times happen near equinoxes. When these events happen, there is an increased current of energy that can be used to access the shadow self. The shadow self is particularly open during these times, and it can be worked with more easily and with more dramatic results.

This class will cover different techniques to use depending on the type of eclipse, and will discuss how the sign the heavenly body is in at the time of the eclipse can be used to greatest effect. It will also cover blending the two dominant energies together, addressing both the sun and the moon placements of such an event.

The Dance: Ritual Arts
Learn to use all your senses to connect to the sacred. Join the energy of your voice and body, to the timeless language of myth. Will you step into the dance of transformation?

Sacred Breath and Voice: Opening to Sacred Sound
Lucinda Sohn
10:45
Sound begins with breath. Will you breathe together in community and create a sacred space for sound and rhythm. We will begin with the sound we individually make—our breath, our heartbeat, our very cells. Through breathing, toning, and singing in sacred harmony.

Explore your voice as an individual experience, and as part of a communal, ecstatic connection, to connect to the sacred and to connect with your deepest self, the self that can heal your deepest wounds. Breathe, tone, and sing your way to joy and healing.

Lunch Discussion: Feng Shui
Cynde Meyer
12:00

Cynde will discuss the Feng Shui as opening up to divine flow and to intention. Learn applications of Feng Shui as a way to energetically open up your home or other space, and allow energy to flow through that space in a more healthy way.

Ritual Artistry: The Language of the Eternal
River (From Chicago)
1:00

One of the skills of a Ritual Artist is the ability to create an experience of timelessness -- an opportunity to slip from our regular, everyday world into a place where story, archetype, and mystery swirl together to allow our deep selves to lay new patterns in our souls.

In this workshop, we'll play with ways to invoke that magical place with language, sound, and movement. Learn the art of moving beyond the boundaries of time, into the language of the eternal.

Learn to use all your senses to connect to the sacred.

Dancing With Your Shadow
Steve Smith and Lucinda Sohn
2:30

Before there was dance there was movement, and this workshop will give participants a chance to explore rhythm and sound as an embodied experience. Allow the deeper parts of yourself to come into expression as you allow your natural rhythm and motion to emerge.

We will create a sacred, safe space for this expression as we dance with our shadows to explore, in an embodied way, how we move, dance, and weave with the shadows within ourselves. What are your shadows, your fears? How do you dance with them? This workshop will offer an opportunity kinesthetically experience your shadows and how you have danced with them in the past, and restory how you might dance with them going forward as you step into healing. Through movement, you can open up the energy within your body, and connect with the sacred.

No experience with dance is needed, only a willingness to explore movement.

Closing Sessions
These experiential, whole-group sessions will take us deeper into the themes of the day.

The Cave, the Stars, and the Dance
4:00
As a whole group, we can explore the topics of the day at a deeper level as we prepare for our closing session where we will ritualize the changes we seek to make. Cynthia will tell us the story of Persephone, and about the archetype within Tarot of the Guiding Star, and how these archetypes can help us to work with our wounds.

We will learn why working with the language of myth helps us to transform at a deeper level by speaking to the subconscious, and embody this with some experiential work with voice and body. Joining the energy of your voice, body, and presence to this experiential work can help you break old patterns and step out of old stories at a deep, primal level. Participants will also have a chance to learn the plan for the closing session as well as learn a chant that we will sing together in community at the culmination of our evening’s work. We’ll explore how the energy raised with drumming, movement, and chanting can work to shift those old patterns inside of us, and give us the fuel to step into a new pattern, a new story, and transform our souls at the deepest possible level.

Movement and Music Offering
7:30

Soft music and the option to move, sit, or socialize. Take the time you need to take in order to prepare for the evening session.

Ritualizing our Transformation
8:00
Together we will step into our closing session as an embodied, experiential opportunity to live a myth for an evening. Step into the story of Persephone, Queen of the Underworld, Chiron, the wounded healer, and the Star card, an archetype from the Tarot. These archetypes will join us as we metaphorically journey to the Cave of initiation and transformation. The Cave, the safe place where we can do the work of regenerating our wounds and stepping into a new story for ourselves, will hold us and our work. Join the whole community to ritualize moving past an obstacle, shedding a fear, releasing the power of a shadow, or offering up a wound to Persephone.

Persephone knows the magic of regeneration, and each winter she returns to the Underworld, deep beneath the earth, where the plants are resting until spring comes and they grow anew. Persephone knows that wounds given to her keeping will heal beneath the earth. Chiron knows that within each wound is the potential to heal, and that his own wound made him a world-renowned healer and physician. Chiron also knows that there is a mystery within the Stars in the sky, that we can move towards the Guiding Star that brings us a message of hope and leads us to the best in ourselves. The song of the stars may lead us to understanding what gifts we receive from the wounds we seek to move beyond.

Participating in this ritual does not require you to believe in any of these archetypes as deities, or to subscribe to any particular religious faith. We will use the basic pattern of a ritual in the tradition of Earth-based spirituality in the inclusive, participatory style of Diana’s Grove. This will offer each participant a chance to be an active co-creator in their own healing.
